Faro Airport is Portugal's second airport (after Lissabon). In Portuguese the airport is referred to as, Aeroporto Internacional de Faro. It is the tourists' gateway to the Algarve, situated on the southern coast of Portugal. Aircraft take-off and land in the direction of the Atlantic Ocean because of the mountainous interior directly behind the airport.
